I wrote Leave It Behind when I was 14 – a time in my life when I was trying to better understand addiction and the effects it can have on people I love. I was watching my mom’s battle with alcoholism, and it made me feel powerless. Even if I tried to help, I knew the problem was bigger than me and beyond my control. Seeing the ways mental health and addiction can change us all was a heartbreaking loss for me, and the only way I knew how to make some sense of it was by writing about it. While the pain for me is unending, it has also helped shape me and my writing, given me strength and resilience and has obviously influenced the title of the EP.
